Raymond "Spider" Raider

Raymond "Spider" Raider HAMILTON SQUARE - Raymond "Spider" Raider, 85, of Hamilton Square passed away on December 23, 2014 at home with his loving family by his side. Born in Trenton, New Jersey he was a lifelong area resident. Son of the late Howard Raider and Sophie Ciebiera and predeceased by his wife, Ruth Raider; he is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Kenneth Dillon of Mercerville, his sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Terri Raider of Ewing, and Michael and Lorraine Raider of Hamilton; his grandchildren, Kimberly Kauffman, Jillian and Andrew Raider, Terilynn and Jason Raider, Nicole and Erin Magee and his great-grandchildren, Luna Reichert and Cody Raider. He is also survived by a special aunt, Leona Krempecke; two sisters, Louise Beczo of Trenton and Constance Mellodge of Rhode Island and many special nieces and nephews.

Spider attended Trenton Central High School and was drafted into the Army as a Medical Tech in 1951. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and returned to working at Congoleum Nairn, where he was employed until retiring in 1994, with 48 years of dedicated service.

Spider loved the sports of soccer and baseball. He played soccer for Trenton High School and several of the premiere soccer clubs in Trenton. He was inducted into the Mercer County Soccer Hall of Fame in 1997. Through the love of the game he helped to establish the soccer program at the Hibernian Club which still exists today. The Hibernian Soccer Field in Hamilton, proudly bares his name for his contributions and dedication to the program. He was always proud that the soccer legacy continued in the family through granddaughter Jillian and now, great-granddaughter Luna. He played softball for Arbor Village, JoJo's Tavern and the Hibernian Club.

He was an avid freshwater and saltwater fisherman. With several fishing buddies from the Fin Fur Feather Club he started going to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. In later years, it would become the "Raider Family" vacation place and his home away from home. He leaves behind many, many friends there and a lot of happy memories.

His home was his kingdom, especially his kitchen. He was an avid baker and was always making cookies, cakes, pies and special treats for the Hibernian Fish Fry's. We are sure that they will definitely miss his weekly contributions. He belonged to the Ancient Order of Hibernians where he was a lifetime member and a former Hibernian of the Year; the Fin Fur Feather Club where he was a lifetime member and the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club where he held many awards and citations.

A service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way in Hamilton Square. Calling hours will be from 1-3 pm. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations, in Raymond's honor, to be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 248 East Chestnut Hill Road, Suite 4, Newark, DE 19713.
